What it is

Restoring a tooth without making it look fake.

When a tooth has decay, an old failing filling, a crack, or fracture from grinding, the right restoration brings it back to working — and looking — like the natural tooth next to it. Modern materials and digital design have changed restorative dentistry profoundly: today's tooth-colored fillings, all-ceramic crowns, and bonded onlays last longer, look better, and preserve more healthy tooth than what came before.

At District Dentistry in Charlotte, we plan restorations one tooth at a time. A small problem gets a small fix — sometimes just a conservative bonded composite. A bigger problem may need an onlay or a full crown to protect the remaining tooth structure. We don't crown a tooth that doesn't need it, and we don't try to "save" a tooth with a tiny filling when an onlay would protect it for decades longer.

For missing teeth, a fixed bridge can restore the gap when an implant isn't an option — and we'll explain the trade-offs of each clearly so you choose with full information, not pressure.

Our process

How a crown or bridge actually comes together.

Most patients are surprised how few visits modern restorations take — and how natural the result feels in your bite.

Step 01

Diagnosis and design

We confirm what the tooth actually needs — sometimes less than expected, sometimes more. You see the plan and the cost in writing before we begin.

Step 02

Conservative preparation

We remove only what's necessary: decay, old failing material, and the smallest amount of healthy tooth needed to make room for the new restoration.

Step 03

Digital scan and lab work

We take a digital scan — no goopy impressions — and our trusted lab crafts the restoration to match the neighboring teeth in shade, shape, and translucency.

Step 04

Comfortable temporary

You wear a well-shaped temporary for 1 to 2 weeks. We make sure your bite feels right and the temporary doesn't bother you.

Step 05

Final placement and bite check

We bond or cement the final restoration, fine-tune the bite under careful articulation paper, and polish. You leave with a tooth that feels like the rest of yours.

Why District Dentistry

Why patients trust our restorative work.

A good restoration is the difference between a tooth that lasts five years and a tooth that lasts thirty.

Modern materials

All-ceramic crowns, bonded composites, and lithium disilicate for strength and natural translucency.

Conservative philosophy

We remove only what we have to. Every millimeter of healthy tooth we preserve is a millimeter that protects you long-term.

One office for everything

Decay control, root canal, build-up, crown — all sequenced in one office so nothing falls through the cracks.

Lab partners we trust

We work with a small, senior dental lab in the Carolinas — not the cheapest, but the most consistent for color and fit.

Common questions

Restoration questions.

These come up at most consults.

How long does a crown last?

A well-made, well-bonded crown lasts 15 to 25 years on average — many last much longer with good hygiene and a nightguard if you grind. The biggest threats are decay underneath (from poor flossing along the gumline) and fracture from grinding without protection.

How much does a crown cost in Charlotte?

A typical all-ceramic crown at our office runs $1,200 to $1,650 depending on the tooth and complexity. Most PPO plans cover 50%. We always present a written estimate with your specific insurance applied before we begin.

Same-day crowns — do you do them?

We do a small number of same-day crowns in-office where the case is straightforward. For most cases we use our outside lab because the color and fit are noticeably better — especially for front teeth — and the 2-week wait is worth it.

Crown vs. bridge vs. implant — how do I choose?

Crown is for a tooth that's still there but damaged. Bridge or implant is for a tooth that's missing. Implants are usually the best long-term choice for missing teeth, but bridges are faster and lower upfront cost. We'll lay all three options out clearly with pros and cons.

Will my new crown feel different?

For the first day or two, slightly — your tongue notices anything new. By the end of the first week, almost every patient forgets which tooth it is. If anything still bothers you after that, we adjust it at no charge.
