Calm, kid-paced dentistry that builds good habits early.
Cleanings, exams, sealants, fluoride, and gentle first visits for kids ages 4 and up. We move at your child's pace — not the schedule's.
The first dental visits set the tone for life.
Kids who have a calm first dental experience become adults who don't dread the dentist. That's the whole bet of pediatric dentistry done well — slow down, explain everything in the child's own words, and never push past what they're ready for. At District Dentistry in Charlotte, we see children ages four and up alongside their parents and grandparents, so dental visits become a normal family routine rather than a special anxiety.
Our pediatric visits are deliberately unhurried. The first appointment is often just a "tell, show, do" tour — meet the dentist, ride the chair up and down, count the teeth, get a sticker. A scared child does not get held down. We re-book, we try again, and we usually get there in two or three visits. The patience pays off for thirty years of good habits.
As kids grow, we move into the same preventive rhythm as adults — cleanings, exams, sealants on the new molars, fluoride if the risk profile warrants it, and an eye on bite development. If your child needs braces or Invisalign later, we'll know early and refer or plan accordingly.
What a kid's appointment actually looks like.
Every child is different. The visit adapts to your child — not the other way around.
A calm welcome
We greet your child by name, show them the room, and let them sit in the chair if they want — or in your lap if they don't. No surprises.
Tell, show, do
We name every tool ('Mr. Mirror', 'Tooth Counter') and let your child touch it before it touches them. Most kids relax inside ten minutes.
Counting and cleaning
We count the teeth, brush them with a gentle electric polisher, and apply fluoride if appropriate. Most kids think it's fun by visit two.
The honest parent talk
We summarize what we saw for you — including whether anything actually needs treatment, or whether we should just keep watching.
Why families bring their kids here.
We don't claim to be a kids-only specialty office. We are a calm, careful family practice that's good with anxious children — and parents notice the difference.
Patient, never rushed
We never force a treatment. If today isn't the day, we rebook. The child being in control changes everything.
Same team every visit
Your kid sees the same dentist and hygienist each time. Familiar faces lower anxiety more than any sticker.
Honest treatment recommendations
Many small things in baby teeth don't need treatment if the tooth is falling out soon. We'll tell you when watching is the right call.
Whole-family scheduling
Parents, kids, and grandparents on the same morning. One trip, one parking, calmer kids.
Parent questions.
Most of these come up at the first family-intake call.
What age do you start seeing kids?
We see children ages four and up. For younger toddlers, we recommend a pediatric-specialty practice that's built around the under-four age range. By four, most kids do beautifully in our calm general practice.
What if my child won't open their mouth?
We don't force it. The first visit might be just a chair ride, a count, and a sticker — and that's a win. We rebook, build trust, and almost always get there. We have many patients now who refused to open the mouth at their first visit and are completely fine by visit three.
Do you do sealants and fluoride?
Yes — sealants on the new molars around age six and twelve, and fluoride varnish for kids at moderate or higher decay risk. We don't apply fluoride routinely without a reason; we explain what we recommend and why.
My kid is scared of the dentist. Can you help?
Yes. We see anxious kids constantly. The two things that matter most are patience and consistency — same calm team, same room, same routine. We will go at whatever pace your child needs, and we never punish hesitation.
Do you take pediatric insurance plans?
We accept most major PPO plans for kids and adults. NC Health Choice (Medicaid for children) is not currently accepted; we can refer you to a participating practice if needed.
